Dear Fiber Friend,
This is your invitation to contribute to the next book in Storey’s One-Skein Wonders series: 101 One-Skein Lace Wonders!
This time, our focus is lace knitting. We invite you to contribute knitted lace designs for home-decorating items, baby items, personal accessories, toys, or garments, each one using only one skein of your favorite yarn. We are pleased to be able to offer $101 for each of the 101 patterns selected. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2012. See the Submissions Checklist below for information on how to format your submission and where to send materials. We address other frequently asked questions in the FAQ below.
If your pattern is selected, we will send you a letter of agreement asking for the one-time right to include it in our publication. We will give you credit for your work, including complete information about your business, if applicable, and, of course, you will be one of the first to receive a complimentary copy of the new book.
We’re hoping that you will want to be part of our next one-skein book and look forward to hearing from you!
With best wishes,
Gwen Steege, Senior Acquisitions Editor, Storey Publishing
Judith Durant, One-Skein Wonders Series Editor
P.S. Feel free to pass along this invitation to other designing friends who may want to join in.
We prefer to receive projects using yarns that are currently available on the market. As long as the yarn is similar in style and weight to an available commercial yarn, however, your project may be acceptable. Please remember that these projects must be made from only one skein of yarn. Using parts of multiple skeins to make one full skein does not count.
The main project must be made with just one skein of yarn. Using scrap yarn or thread for small embellishments, such as eyes on a baby toy, however, is fine.
You may use any notions or other supplies that are essential to the creation of the finished project.
It can be either a unique design that you’ve already developed and sold in a shop or online, or something completely new developed just for the book.
You may submit as many patterns as you would like, but we do require separate paperwork for each of your entries.
We must have a complete knitted pair/set of each project.
Yes, the written pattern must be submitted with the completed project. When we’re making selections we’ve found it helpful to refer to the written pattern. Rest assured, we respect your rights to your pattern and if your submitted project is not accepted, all paperwork will be returned to you intact via your included SASE.
At the very least, we need measurements for any garment. If you can include a schematic (either hand- or computer-generated), that would be lovely. And charts may also be hand- or computer-generated, as long as they are neat and easy-to-read.
In order to return your project, we need an SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) big enough, and with enough postage, to accommodate it.
Storey retains only one-time rights to publish patterns in our one-skein book, as well as in any book-related marketing campaigns. You retain the actual copyright to the pattern. You may submit a pattern that you are already selling online or in a shop, and you may continue to sell it both while the book is being produced and after it has been published.
We must have the finished project physically in-hand, along with all other required materials, by the April 1, 2012 deadline in order to consider it for inclusion in the upcoming book.
We will begin to notify all designers of our decisions in late winter. Please be patient, you will hear from us one way or another when our decisions are finalized.
Yes, we do accept project paperwork via e-mail. Send everything to oneskeinseries@storey.com. Please remember than you still must send us the actual item by the April 1, 2012 deadline in order to be considered for inclusion in the book.
Yes, we would be more than happy to review any projects that are either completely crocheted or incorporate crochet into the design.
Even if you submit your project through this online form, you still need to send us the physical project by the contest deadline: April 1, 2012.
